Letter from Valerie Williams, 2010 Conference Chair

“LIFTING EDUCATION AND COURT REPORTING TO A HIGHER LEVEL”

Hello fellow MECRA members,

Greetings from the middle of the sandy shores of Lake Michigan - Muskegon! It’s hard to believe that the 2010 MECRA conference is rapidly approaching. I hope you are all enjoying the nice weather we’ve had throughout Michigan. Soon we won’t be able to leave home without our sunglasses or sunscreen....one of the great benefits of living where we can experience the 4 seasons!

As 2010 Conference Chair, I am enthusiastically preparing for your arrival (with the generous and much needed help of our Board members). This year’s conference (August 11 - 13) will be an exciting and educational one.

Please contact the hotel by July 15th for reservations by phone at (231)722-0100 or at the link found on the MECRA website under the conference tab. Make sure you mention that you are attending the MECRA Conference at the government rate of $65 per night so that you get the correct rate.

Be sure to indicate on your registration form how many people will be attending the dinner cruise aboard the Port City Princess. Instructions for guests are on the enclosed agenda. Conference attendees are free, as it is included in the registration. (Space is limited up to 150 passengers)

For your convenience all conference information will be mailed to you directly and available on the conference tab of the MECRA website.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or one of our board members. You may contact me at 231-724-6349 or email williamsva@co.muskegon.mi.us.  I look forward to welcoming you to Muskegon in August.

Warm regards,
Valerie Alcorn Williams
2010 Conference Chair

At registration, there will be a representative present from the Muskegon Visitors Bureau to answer any questions you may have about your stay in Muskegon and also to greet you with a Welcome Bags, which will include information and guides to local shops and attractions.

A fabulous array of speakers is being arranged as well as local vendors.

Please plan to bring your family to Muskegon for a fun vacation. We have beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, Michigan’s Adventure and many local attractions to keep them busy while you are at the conference. There is also an annual Christian Unity Festival beginning on Friday evening. So, if you plan to stay for the weekend, you may want to reserve your rooms in advance because the Unity Festival
brings in literally thousands of people to Muskegon and rooms will fill up fast.

Lastly, but probably most importantly, I welcome your ideas for this conference. I have 2 half-days and only one full day planned (thought we’d keep the courts that’s paying our way happy due to budget cuts, and hopefully more girls will be able to attend this year). I want your experience at this conference to be an educational, yet relaxing, fun-filled time. Please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone at 231-724-6349 or email at williamsva@co.muskegon.mi.us.
