Updated: Mar 24

MAPCR, MAFCR, and MECRA developed what we call the "Legislative Dream Team" in January of 2023.

Our three organizations along with our lobbyist firm GCSI, other professionals in the legal field, friends, and family fought for the long-awaited page rate increase through HB 5046.

After 38 years, HB 5046 was signed by Governor Whitmer on January 17, 2025. Our page rate now will take effect on April 2, 2025. Click here to view HB 5046 / PA 226, 2024.

We now are eager to celebrate with everyone. Feel free to share this invite!

Tickets are $25 each and guest are welcome. (Click here to purchase your tickets)

Tickets include two drink tickets, appetizers, and a commemorative gift. Additional drinks are cash bar. (Spouses, family, and friends are welcome.)

Thank you! HB 5046 Dream Team

The Michigan Court Reporting and Recording Board of Review is once again looking for applicants who are interested in making positive improvements to the court reporter and recorder program by joining one of the three Board of Review Subcommittees focused on improving specific areas of the program. The three subcommittees and their roles are listed below:

The Subcommittee dedicated to the Manual for Court Reporters and Recorders

The Manual for Court Reporters and Recorders has been adopted by the Board of Review as a guide of the duties, responsibilities, and standards that each reporter and recorder must uphold. It contains a condensed summarization of all court rules, statutes, and policies relevant to each court reporter and recorder. The Manual Subcommittee will be responsible for making recommendations to the Board of Review to improve the manual, including reformatting the manual and ensuring that the manual is up to date.  This subcommittee's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, reviewing any proposed manual change requests and providing a recommendation to the Board of Review on if and where the change would go in the manual, monthly review of the manual for outdated court rules, legislation, and policies as changes are made, redesigning the format of the manual, and working with the SCAO to publish an updated manual annually.

The Examination Subcommittee

The Examination Subcommittee is responsible for making recommendations to the Board of Review about the certification examination process, examination content, and the development of examination standards.  This subcommittee's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, establishing standards for knowledge and skills testing on each section of the exam, developing new exam material, developing a strict standard grading and appeal system, developing a roster of qualified exam graders, and conducting information-gathering sessions with examinees.

The Education and training Subcommittee

The Education and Training Subcommittee is responsible for making recommendations to the Board of Review about training and education and the development of materials for court recorders and reporters and those directly affected by their work.  This subcommittee's responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, developing a core curriculum and a review process for the course of study, developing reference materials for court recorders/reporters and others, and developing trainings relevant to the skills, knowledge, and work of court recorders/reporters.

Subcommittee members commit to meeting virtually once a month with the possibility of more frequent meetings if needed. Those who are appointed serve 2-year terms.   If interested, individuals can locate the link to the application here.
