HB 5046 Update - Page Rate Increase

Hope all is well and enjoying the ‘Indian Summer’ that we’re having

As you all might not be aware, there was a House Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, that I was totally unaware of, where testimony was given regarding our “new” House Bill 5046.

  • Today, I sent an email to Mr. Nick Strunk, (Rep. Shannon’s legislative assistant) introducing myself and just what we are looking for in the page rate increase for our HB 5046.

  • Mr. Nick Strunk then called me and  we had a very nice conversation – having never met before – now has my contact information!

  • Mr. Strunk, informed me that our House Bill 5046 comes up for a vote next Tuesday, October 17th, 2023 à We will then have a chance to appear in support of our HB 5046!!

  • Please let’s all (that can), be in attendance on that date

  • He has been invited (with permission of MECRA President, Jodi Gordon) to be in attendance with us for our 10th Strategy meeting this Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at 8:30 a.m., stating that he would be more than happy to join with any input he may have to help us get where we need to be à

  • Further stating that the Michigan Association of Counties is at a point where they want to support the page rate increase, just pointing out the “double-dipping” aspect, which has always been their drawback.

  • I assured him that we can certainly have that discussion and get things ironed out and hopefully come out victoriously at the end of all of this à Yes!

We will send instructions for preparing your letters of support by tomorrow morning. See attached HB 5046 pdf and version with proposed changes.

Hope all will be able to attend our next Legislative Strategy meeting this Saturday by Zoom 212 158 4850,
